Roots&Future Sound System presents vernissage of inernational exhibiton The Reggae Movement Sound System: From Jamaica to Europe 1950-1995. On Friday 11th May 2012, Galerie Náplavka starting at 17:00. Supporting programme, lectures and talks, cinema and discussion begininng at 20:00. Talks and lectures are going to be about the history and evolution of the sound system phenomena, djs & mcs, dubplate culture, musical development and influence of “Bass Culture” from Jamica to Europe since 1950s until the present day. Solar power soundsystems, african music scene and social programmes. Lecturers are Ronan Lynch (Irieland Music, One Drop IR/D), musician, journalist a editor in chief of IrieUp magazine, producer and dj Damalistik (Roots Survival /FR) and others.

Follow-on thematic afterparty in the „37th Chamber“ is also a warm-up for the Sound system only Survival Meeting held on 1st-3rd June by the dam Orlík. Music will be provided by Jah Seal (Irieland Music IR/D), Roots Survival (FR), United Forces of Dub and Roots&Future DJs. Veggie cousine and outdoor bar by Hustánek from the HUS23 crew.

We are happy to present our new special 12" EP a compilation of dub mixes from the album Attitude of Prague based band United Flavour. After two well accepted LPs and several european tours, United Flavour is today’s most successful reggae band in Czech Republic. The name of this multicultural group with a charming spanish vocalist Carmen and african origin producer and bassist Djei goes well with their sound, a unique mixture of modern reggae, world music, latino and hip-hop. The album was mixed in Prague at Faust studio by well experienced british engineer Derek Fevrier, known among other things for his work with Twinkle Brothers. As United Forces of Dub we promised an opulent harvest for 2012 and here we come with the first record of the year. Long expected "Dub Attitude EP" is a compilation of dub remixes from the last album of United Flavour - Attitude. Record was mixed by experienced british engineer Derek Fevrier known among others for his cooperation with Twinkle Brothers. We picked 6 dub versions and remixes from exclusive non-released material mixed in Prague and tagged them together on special vinyl EP. Exclusively for this release track "On My Own Again" featuring great and well known british vocalist Earl 16 has been remade.

This 12" vinyl will be tradionally launched at the UFoD 5th Release Party in Cross Club featuring musicians from United Flavour band. As a special guest you will get to see established project Jahtari with their 8-bit reggae & dub style. The evening will acompany british but prague based selector Mr. ISM with Mc Turner from US and our Brno connection Radiobuttera & Jahly Soul supported by brass section ZZ Triple.
All this will take place on Friday March 16th in Cross Club in Prague supported how else than by extra sound of Roots&Future Sound System.For every dubhead out there it's a must!

Although it's almost a year from our last release we haven't been idle. We focused on promoting our works, for example, our „Label Showcase“ in London has been a success or we had a show on the, currently biggest soundsystem culture festival, Outlook. All these things helped us to establish the brand on international dub scene. In the same time we were gathering materials for next releases so you can expect a fresh batch of music.

First record to come out is a project „AMIGA“ riddim on which we've been working together with respected Czech producer Syncro. It has been recorded not only at home base studios Mustakillah and Gunjah but also at Conscious Sounds in London and uniquely at Syncro's mobile studio in Nairobi(Kenya). It is an international project putting together conscious artists from different places of the world. Solo Banton from United Kingdom, Rueben Mystic from Jamaica, Juakali from United States, young singers from Africa Dada Afrik & Kalcia and a talented artist Fireson from Nairobi. Although from different places, the artist are united on this record lyrically, focusing in one way or the other on the many faces of Babylon, being it state, society or police brutality.

Every new record needs to be celebrated and in the case of this new 12 inch it will be under the inspection of seasoned artists. First is a legend of British reggae and jungle, Tenor Fly, he's going to go back to his roots and bring a reggae-dub show inna soundsystem style. Next to him will perform headliner of the new record Solo Banton who is now one of the most sought after deejays. Third overseer of the celebration is going to be a special guest directly from Nairobi(Kenya), Fireson, who is on his first visit to Europe ever. Last but not least is going to be our local MC Ras Jahdone.
One thing is clear, packed schedule and superb line up is not accepting any apologies. Thursday 8.12.2011 at Cross club is a place not to miss out!

This 11 track release follows a string of widely popular singles on the Reggae Roast imprint which have seen support from both reggae lovers, DJs and music journalists alike.

The album features a selection of forthcoming Reggae Roast Records singles, some classic tracks from the label vaults, plus some of their favourite cuts from the past 12 months. The track list is typical of a Reggae Roast sound system selection. It features the type of conscious message, energy and vibes the crew have become synonymous with promoting.

International Dub Convention

The end of the club season is coming and before you leave the town for all the festivals coming up we'd like to throw the last show in Cross club on 25th of June. This is event is a beggining of a new irregular series called "International Dub Convention" where we want to present current dub culture from different places from Europe. It will be all in our best tradition, with the usual stall full of records, irie up magazines and other merchandise and with extra sound system, this time we will be proudly baptising new hand-built bass boxes from our family, the Roots'n'Future sound system. We're gonna shake the Cross to the bones so if you are sensitive bring some earplugs. So what we've prepared? Firstly, a Jamaican singer Jah Ruben Mystic will appear alongside ourselves. Secondly, our invitation accepted a foundation dub sound from Zagreb, Croatia, Digitron Sound System and also as a little surprise Mark Dub from Bristol's Dub Revolution sound. As we always strive to show what's going on in our own neighbourhood we invited our Brno connection from Pawlač Zewls and Radio Bufera Crew, Jamal Rodriguez and Ramon Ramirez as well as Echodelic from Prague.

Jah Rueben Mystic (Bryan Williams) was born in april 1971 in Kingston, Jamaica. Growing up in the centre of "roots music" during the "70s reggae boom" young Rueben got involved soon. He took over his "silky" smooth voice after his favourite reggae singer then Sanchez. After gaining experience in small local sound systems and competitions Rueben toured with Black Hero Sound system around Jamaica where his performance charmed several producers and promoters. Shortly afterwards first contacts for studio recordings and live gigs with band at major reggae open-air festivals followed. Tune „JAH JAH ONLY YOU“ is one of the best tunes from his Jamaican era.

At the dawn of 3rd millenium Rueben moved to the european reggae metropolis London where he still lives. In London, he got the attention quite quickly and became a solid part of the scene. He's especially known for his combinations with Ras Zacharri in Mannaseh's production or for tunes he did with Markie Lyrics on Universal Roots label. This is his very first visit to Czech so don't miss out and make him feel welcomed. United Forces say so!

Digitron Sound System is a first and for sure best-known sound system in Croatia. Although it's been established in 2008 it is nothing that new as behind it stand seasoned musicians from Zagreb. To back it up be sure that the foundation member is nobody else but Vrki a.k.a. WRX the bass player from Radikal Dub Kolektiv and Radikal Dub Sound operator and it is him who's going to represent the sound here in Prague. So expect their own heavyweight production which is being released on their own label Digitron Records as well as some exclusive dubplates and roots selection and that all with the true punk attitude.

Mark Dub, from Bristol's sound Dub Revolution is a surprise guest and we're very happy to have him here. Dub Revolution is a loose crew of musicians, producers and singers and is more focused on diverse live shows than studio work. One of the current memebers of the crew is Knaty P who you may remember from the memorable visit of RDK Hi-Fi sound system back in 2008.

Outlook Festival Launch Party

We've got an event in June that nobody really expected or hoped for. We've been asked to setup a warm-up launch party for, ever bigger and more and more prestigious, Outlook festival here in Prague. Outlook is becoming one of the most influential events in bass and soundsystem culture in Europe. A place where the traditional UK Roots approach from 80's meets the latest forms of experimental and dance music. We adopted the same approach for the launch party in Prague's Cross club. Besides Jack Sparrow, who's been to Prague already and has recently released a great album Circadian, we'll see the master of masters and long time hoped for British producer of Indian descent - Kromestar with the support of MC Sun of Selah. To all this add two stages with heavyweight soundsystems and plenty of other foreign and local artists, djs and producers. So don't forget to write down the date 11th of June to you party calendar!

Outlook. Outlook? Outlook! If you haven't heard about it yet then trust us that this is a very special event. The festival is held in an abandoned fort in Pula in the stunning region of Istria, Croatia, Outlook is at the forefront of bass driven music featuring some of the biggest names from the most vibrant and cutting edge dance scenes around. This years line up includes some of the biggest names in Soundsystem culture from the worlds of Dub, Dubstep, Dancehall, Drum & Bass, Hiphop, Grime, Garage, Electronica and Bass Music. Irie Up Magazine

Irie Up magazine is new independent european journal focused mainly on reggae, dub and connected genres or soundsystem culture. Some of you may have already read it or at least had it in your hands nevertheless we'd like to announce that we are officially a distributor for Czech. We've got, at the moment, few copies of last issues, namely issue number 6, 7, 8 and 9. The price is 80,- Czech koruna and we are happy to hand it over personally in Prague or send it by mail. Magazine itself consists of couple of regular sections. Besides traditional ones like event listings or latest releases reviews and interviews with singers, producers etc. you can find there an interesting part called reggaetown. In this one, IrieUp editors regularly visit different, mainly european, cities and introduce us into the past and present of local scenes. We were honoured to have them here in Prague too. The article that came out of this visit is actually quite unique as there's no such other material covering the history of reggae in Czech since the fall of iron curtain. We will publish an excerpt on our site very soon together with the translation of this article in czech which will, with the courtesy of Irie Up editors, be published in full. FUTURISTIC DUB NIGHT PRESENTS A LEGENDARY ADRIAN SHERWOOD

Defragmentation – a multi-genre regular night which introduces music, politics and other artistic activities where various fragments of different cultural traditions become new, experimental forms – has prepared the top event of this year!

Legendary producer and sound magician Adrian Sherwood will be marking the 30th anniversary of the foundation of his music label On-U Sound and he would like to share the masterpieces of his long-term activities – for the first time in the Czech Republic – with the crowds in the Cross Club, Prague!

Adrian Sherwood has played a very important role in the evolution of alternative music since the 1980s and has cooperated with many artists recognised worldwide. His iconic experimental dub show in the Cross club will be supported by Ghetto Priest on the microphone. The charismatic Ghetto Priest, one of the most distinctive voices of the On-U Sound, has already performed in Prague with various projects and proved to the crowd his unique individual expression.

During this event, a new label called Defragmented will be presented. This label focused on futuristic and experimental side of the dub, will feature also the artists and producers who got involved in the Defragmentation project so far.

Dj Yukimura, also known as studio producer Mustakillah Sound, will be introducing his new project "Killah Dub" and its first release "Garrison Town 2012". This tune, produced in exclusive cooperation with Ghetto Priest and Rebel MC (aka Congo Natty) on vocals in studio co-production with Adrian Sherwood, manifests the current state of a global civilisation controlled through virtual mass media. Referring to the ancient Mayan prophecy, "Garrison Town 2012" is an account of our times and a vision of the future we are heading to.

You will also hear another local project, „Anhedonia in Dub“, with exclusive set. DJ Abu will be representing the dubstep scene alongside the brass specialist Radimo, DJane Deus ex Machina will be playing her original experimental selection and DJ Coltcharam will be spinning the pieces from his collection of dubs from all around the world.

In the basement, the fundamental underground multi-genre soundsystem Roots'n'Future will be running all night long.

Get ready for this unique experience!

The dub metropolis - London will experience a massive dub earthquake in the middle of this April. We are going to introduce our productions and artists representing our label - LIVE! Remarkable evening with pretty heavy line-up, even for a current UK reggae and dub scene, will be happening in Brixton's club Hootananny. No label showcase can miss crucial names therefore you will get to see on stage vocalists like Kenny Knots, Sandeeno or the new rising group called Reality Souljahs whose new album has been recently released on Concious Sounds label. Of course producers must be present too so get ready for a real veteran Dougie Concious and the dub activist Jah Free. Fyah Promotion proudly presents United Forces of Dub - a new dub label from Prague (Czech Republic), where original European production meets traditional UK dub sound. United Forces of Dub label (UFoD) was founded in 2010 as a part of Roots'n'Future Soundsystem. It's a collective of czech reggae and dub enthusiasts, which has been cooperating with many leading producers and artists, such as Mungo’s HiFi, The Disciples, Bush Chemists, Iration Steppas, Dubateers, Top Cat, Brother Culture, YT or Tenor Fly over the past 8 years. By creating this label, UFoD have taken some of their past cooperation further, releasing three 10" records so far. The first release "Dem Don't Know" features one of the most talented UK reggae artists Kenny Knots and was recorded & produced by Mustakillah Sound in Prague, where the music video - Kenny's first ever - was also shot. The flip side tune was provided by Vibronics (UK). This is how the label's "split" strategy, a nice way of introducing local czech producers side by side with already well established reggae and dub producers - has started. The second release features UK veteran dub activist Jah Free and his"Run Babylonian", and introduces Syncro, a czech producer and founder of Gunjah record label, with Juakali (USA) on the vocals on the flip side. On the latest release we can find one of the UK finest roots and dub producers Dougie Conscious (Conscious Sounds) with Sandeeno (UK) on the vocals for his "Bad Mind" and czech dub producer Petr Mikovec on the flip side. With all these three releases, United Forces of Dub have managed to achieve a great success all over the world. 2010 is slowly getting to an end and United Forces of Dub wants to say goodbye in its own way. Outside it's freezing snowing drizzling and one doesn't even want to think about going out but that's exactly what we are going to do on 17th at Cross club in Prague and on 18th at Fleda in Brno. We're going to present our 3rd release and traditionally we will celebrate it with proper dance. Are you wondering what to look for?

We are proud to announce that the international side brings a digital killer from a legendary owner of Conscious Sounds label and studio Dougie Wardrop aka Dougie Conscious. The vocal part in a waterhouse stylee is a creation of, our very favourite, veteran singer Sandeeno. The other side, from our own turf, is a compelling stepper enriched with uplifting melodica sounds and is produced by a Czech electronica pioneer Petr Míkovec.

Dougie Wardrop aka Dougie Conscious is nothing new for Czech fans. Dougie, Chazbo and Culture Freeman as Bush Chemists visited Czech first time in November 2008 and we feel it wasn't last visit.

Conscious Sounds label and studio is an essential part of the international dub community, it has influenced whole generation of dubheads and dougie's work should be in the hall of fame. Him alone, or in cooperation with others, under different names like Bush Chemists, East meets West, Messenjah, Hydroponics or Centry, has released many records and tracks and brought to light heap of singers and deejays like Culture Freeman, Singer Blue, King General or brought back Kenny Knots. Conscious sounds studio is an important hub in Europe as loads of raw recordings are getting final shape here so you can hear and feel Dougie's touch on many releases out there.

King General hails, same as Dougie, from Hackney, London, they both were brought up there and they know each other since they were young boys. Hackney is, in a way, very cultural place with loads of soundsystems and community centres and it is the place where King General got introduced to reggae.

Being a white boy his beginnings as a singer were very tough as in them days it was more or less a black man thing. Later he ended up in Dougie's studio where he recorded number of singles and dubs and that led in 1996 to a first LP King General Bucks Up Pon De Bush Chemists - Money Run Tings. Family and other factors stopped him for almost 13 years but luckily enough in 2008 Chazbo met General on the corner and convinced him to come back. You can listen to the result on King General Re encounters Bush Chemists - Broke Again released in 2009. What is also interesting is that he has never performed live on stage before he came back and it's more than worth it!

Petr Míkovec is active in the music business since 1996, to reggae fans he's known especially as member of Czech band Ilam where he has written many songs and played synths and squeeze box. His way to reggae and dub music wasn't straight forward he got to know it through hip hop and other sample based electronic music, his first encounter with electronic based reggae was through a compilation Journeys Into Outer Bass (1995). As a producer he has released a very diverse album Vogelwijk on discontinued Virtual label, which released a lot of independent Czech electronica, in 2000. In 2003, he started DJing and very quickly moved to reggae and later to roots and dub. The tune Rootstock coming out on our label is his first purely dub production released.

Second release UFD10-02

Second release UFD10-02 is finally out and is getting in the distribution. You can get hold of it on all usual places. Check the links section for the list of distributors and shops.

On the first side, you get a fresh tune from legendary Jah Free. His charismatic voice is presenting us a straight message which content is clearly suggested by the track name – “Run Babylonian”. Babylon is going to shake under the pressure of heavy bass so typical for Jah Free's production. Also typical is the drum programming determining swinging beat supported by distinct skank and vintage Hammond sound. Throughout the track, synthetic clavinet riff is adding it's sound to the base line and completing the distinctive groove. Dub version is darker and harder mix showing the skills of seasoned dub engineer. Lot of effects give the track new dimensions.

Flip side is a meeting point of interesting vocalist Juakali, originally from Trinidad, and a veteran soldier of Czech dub scene, Syncro. We are proud to present Syncro's tune “Long Time Badman” as Syncro has his own, for more than 10 years established, label GunJah. It is a straight stepper with litghter groove and darker atmosphere which is accentuated by main horns theme full of delays and fine-tuned by guitar riff, phasered keyboard skanks and spaced synth pads. Dub mix is more or less an instrumental version which shows Syncro's studio skills and work with individual instruments. Whole dub is filled with Juakali's vocal bits.

Promised music video with Kenny Knots is finally out! It is first Kenny's official music video ever. The video was shot at the same time the tune "Dem don't know" was recorded. It was shot at the end of February in Prague, in Mustakillah Studio, Tešnov area and Cross Club. Big thanks to all who helped us and are supporting us, it wouldn't have happened without you!!!

Big things a gwaan! United Forces of Dub are releasing new, their second, 10 inch and will celebrate it on second Saturday of July at Prague's Cross Club. This time, you'll get a legendary Jah Free a.k.a The Dub Activist. This unageing UK roots and dub veteran playing his relentless "Warrior Style" has been to Prague couple of times already but this is a special occasion, a celebration of another imprint in Czech dub history to which he contributed his tune Run Babylonian.

The other side of the vinyl, with catalogue number UFD10-02, is carrying a nimble stepper from a Czech stable Syncro with Juakali on the vocals called Long Time Badman. Syncro promised to play a lot of specials and unreleased mixes he has produced in his Gunjah Studio on this show and he has a lot to offer, he is a long-time producer and among other things a foundation member and operator of bands Dub Liberation Front or Babylon Station. He has released quite a few 7 inches with vocalists from all around the world including Juakali, Lutan Fyah, Brother Culture or Bongo Chilli to name a few.

To make it even more interesting, there will be another Czech dub live act called Studio Ajar Sound from the very famous town Pilsen. They are going to play their new material which includes a lot of live musicians and ranges from nu roots to digital steppers so everybody gets their cup.

We, as United Forces of Dub including MC Ras Jahdone, are not going to stay silent, get ready for classic anthems and also for fresh tunes, mixes and dubplates. We'll bring an extra sound system so don't forget your ear plugs!

Last weekend in March label's launch party was held in Prague's Cross Club with support on stage from Echo Ranks and Madu Messenger alongside Vibronics and local live acts Dub Liberation Front, Prince Gnomau and the UFoD crew featuring Mc Jahdon from Ghana. Also the first UFoD 10 inch was introduced to the public for a first time.

The 10" vinyl with cat. number UFD 10-01 features Vibronics with Splitz Horns and Prague's project Mustakillah Sound including voice of british reggae star Kenny Knots. More information and soundclips can be found on this website in the Catalog where the record can also be ordered. In case internet shopping is not an acceptable option for you check out the Links section where you will find shops/distributors stocking our releases the list will grow as will grow our distribution network.

Record is out but that's not it, there's more to come. We've got a video in cutting room at the moment and hopefully will be presented on our website and other sites soon. It is first Kenny's appearance in the official video so don't miss out. The tune is going to be available as a digital download as well and on top of that for sound systems and serious collectors we're going to offer exclusive dub mixes which will be available only on our site.

Welcome on website of new Czech label UNITED FORCES OF DUB. It is a collective which has been setting the pace of dub events in Czech Republic for several years, including sound system dances or club shows with fundamental artist from all around the world. They are part of the Roots'n'Future sound system from Prague. They are supporting the local scene as well throwing regularly "Dub the Capital" night where local sounds, selectors or bands get the opportunity. The vision of the label is to open the door to local artists and support them on their musical journey. The releases will usually consist of Czech and akin abroad artist. A lot is scheduled or planned so don't forget to come back.
